The SEGAL Lab is a research facility in the Computer Science Department
of University of Victoria, BC. We carry out research to improve the
collaboration of geographically distributed software development teams.
Global software development is increasingly becoming common practice in
the software industry, as the ability to develop software at remote
sites in projects such as development outsourcing allows organizations
to ignore the geographical distance and benefit from access to a
qualified resource pool and reduced development costs. The rapidly
increasing globalization of software industry creates software
engineering challenges due to the impact of temporal, geographical and
cultural differences, and requires development of methodologies,
techniques and technologies to address these issues.
Our research is at the intersection of areas of Software Engineering,
Computer Supported Cooperative Work and Human Computer Interaction.
SEGAL projects aim at achieving a better understanding of the challenges
faced by multi-site software organizations and at studying advanced
technologies that successfully support collaborative activities in
global software engineering. Details on the current technical infrastructure
in our lab can be found here.

director, Dr. Daniela Damian.
